Research on expensive automated balance platforms showed real neuromuscular gains. The gap was obvious: on one side, machines almost no clinic could justify; on the other, simple roller boards that did not move the way the research demanded. Nobody had built an affordable, portable version in between.

Jeffrey VanBuren, a physical therapist with more than 20 years of clinical experience, built the first prototype days later and used it with real PT clients that week. Four prototype iterations followed, each driven by feedback from working clinicians. The design took second place in the OSU business plan competition, a distribution relationship with Fitterfirst followed, and the first patent was filed.
